PART 24: RUBY

May 2020, Melbourne

So, it's Monday. No, it's not, It's Tuesday. Quarantine times have made me forget what day it is, which I think is a pretty universal feeling at the moment. I haven't recorded in a couple of weeks. I was planning on starting camming a few weeks ago. But just like setting up my profile was quite hard. And I had to learn to code a little bit to like customise my profile. I mean, I probably didn't have to, I could have  paid someone, but I didn’t. And also setting up how to get paid was quite hard because it's an American based site and I'm in Australia. So, it just took a little bit longer than I was hoping.

But I started camming on Friday or Saturday, Saturday, I've done three days of it now. And yeah, honestly, I'm really enjoying it. Like a lot more than I thought I would.  I was kind of expecting,  everything I'd heard was that it was overly saturated at the moment, and that it was really hard to make money on it. And then on average people earning like, between $10 and $20 an hour on cam, like obviously not like top models and you've been around for ages, but like new people were struggling according to everything I kind of read.

So, I basically went into it with very, very low expectations, mainly because I'm just like really scared about the permanency of camming and online and any nudity online. Especially considering like, that's why I always did stripping because I didn't have that, I didn't have that to worry about that, there wasn't a sense of permanency. I was never out on social media. So, there was no like, kind of, for lack of a better word, documentation of me having done the sex work. And that's something that really scared me about camming.

So, coming up with what to do on my first day was kind of tricky. Then I decided to go completely out of the box. And I wore a full astronaut costume, not like a sexy astronaut costume, like a full NASA costume with a helmet, which is what I used to use in one of my shows at the club. So, I wore the full helmet and like, people had to tip me to take the helmet off or like dance or like I don't know, do a headstand. So, there were all activities that were essentially not hypersexual. And I just talked a lot.

That's always what I did when I was dancing. I kind of got long bookings based on just talking a lot. And yeah, on my first night, I got in the top 10 most popular rooms on My Free Cams which was really, really cool. Not like on like the leaderboard permanently but like, for when I was online, I was in one of the top 10 most popular rooms. People thought the helmet was really funny. They were kind of being like, “Oh, why? Why are there all these naked girls on the site? And yet, I've been in your chat room for three hours, and you're dressed as an astronaut”. So yeah, that was like a really pleasant surprise.

I made good money. Like way better than I was expecting. And yeah, I'm really fucking stoked with that, to be honest. Because I thought it was gonna be really hard and really terrible. And I'm not saying it wasn't hard, like being completely ‘on’ the whole time was really difficult. Like, I mean, I did not stop talking for three hours and coming up with ways to get them entertained but also, not too entertained because I needed them to pay money for me to be entertaining, but without getting naked. So yeah, it was like a bit of a learning curve and I'm still learning about it. And I'm interested to see what will happen when I guess like the new model status wears off and I guess like the excitement of being this random girl in an astronaut costume. Like once a novelty is sort of lost, like, I don't know where I go to from there.

So, like, short term, it could be really good, long term, it might be a bit harder. But yeah, basically, I've decided I'm just gonna do costume-based shows. So, like I ordered a Catwoman costume, I’ve got a pirate costume. I did that last night. And it's just a bit of fun. I think, like a lot of the people watching are from the States or the UK. And I think with everything that's going on in the world at the moment, they're just finding a bit of straight up nonsense refreshing. Anyway, that's me today and that's probably my last diary. So, moving forward into a world of camming as an astronaut.
