Historically and currently, condoms are often used as evidence by police in order to arrest or harass sex workers.
Something as simple as carrying condoms can expose sex workers to harassment, abuse, degrading treatment and arrest by law enforcement. Trans, indigenous, black, migrant and street-based workers are the most likely to be targeted.
Condoms and their use as evidence against sex workers only further highlights the importance of the full decriminalisation of sex work. When sex work is legalised rather than decriminalised, the rules and regulations put in place by governments usually make working more dangerous and disproportionality impact more marginalised workers.
